😂 Face with tears of joy
The headline act. It says the joke genuinely landed and you are laughing out loud, not just being polite about it.
🤣 Rolling on the floor laughing
One level louder than 😂. Save it for stories so funny that a normal laugh would feel disrespectful.
😹 Cat with tears of joy
The playful cousin. Same happy tears, extra cuteness, perfect when the joke is silly rather than savage.
😅 Grinning face with sweat
The relieved giggle after a near-miss. It laughs while quietly wiping its forehead at the same time.
😆 Grinning squinting face
Eyes shut, mouth wide. It sounds like someone laughing at their own joke before anyone else can.
🥲 Smiling face with tear
Joy with feelings attached. Proud parents, graduation posts and happy endings all live inside this one tear.
😭 Loudly crying face
Online, this is often dramatic laughter rather than sadness. Context decides, so always read the message around it.
💀 Skull
Shorthand for “that killed me.” It means the joke won completely and you have no comeback left.
😜 Winking face with tongue
Pure mischief. It softens teasing so friends know the joke comes from love, not war.
🤪 Zany face
Unhinged in the friendliest way. Group-chat chaos, silly selfies and Friday energy all live here.
Laughing crying emoji on WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok
WhatsApp: family groups run on this face. Among all WhatsApp emojis, 😂 is the one that restarts sleepy threads, and when a joke deserves a trophy, many people upgrade to the ROFL emoji instead. Match the laugh to the joke, not to your typing speed.
Instagram: Instagram emojis in comments are tiny reviews. A single 😂 under a meme says “approved” faster than any caption, while 🥲 rules emotional posts and proud moments. One face per comment looks confident; a wall of them looks like noise.
TikTok: the first 😂 in a comment section is a quality stamp that tells scrollers to stay. Creators watch for it, fans stack it, and 💀 has become the younger crowd’s favorite way to say the video finished them.
- ✅ Do match the size of the laugh to the size of the joke.
- ✅ Do add one short line when the moment is personal.
- ❌ Don’t answer sad or serious news with 😂.
- ❌ Don’t stack 💀 where grandparents are reading.

Why the laughing crying emoji keeps trending in 2026
Every year someone declares 😂 finished, and every year it tops the charts again. It anchors trending emojis 2026 lists because it is the rare symbol every generation reads the same way: honestly, loudly funny.
| Platform | 2026 trend | Try it like this |
|---|---|---|
| 😂 as the default group laugh | One 😂 under the funniest message | |
| Reaction faces as comment reviews | 😂 first, words second | |
| TikTok | 💀 rising beside 😂 | 💀 when the joke “ended” you |
By late 2026, expect 😂 to anchor even more video replies, as chats keep trading typed laughter for faces that react in real time.
Laughing crying emoji questions people ask
Is 😂 the same as 🤣?
Close, but not twins. 😂 is the everyday laugh; 🤣 tilts sideways because the joke knocked it over. Use 🤣 when 😂 feels too calm.
Why do people send 😭 when they mean laughing?
Exaggeration is the joke. 😭 turns “that was funny” into a full dramatic performance, and in fandom chats it almost always means overwhelmed joy.
Is 💀 really replacing 😂?
Partly, with younger users. 💀 means “I’m dead” from laughing, but 😂 remains the universal choice that every age group understands instantly.
Can 😂 ever look rude?
Yes, under bad news or someone’s honest mistake it reads as laughing at them, not with them. When in doubt, write the kind words first.
The bottom line on the laughing crying emoji
One face, two tears, and a whole room laughing: that is why 😂 refuses to retire. Pick the laugh that matches your real reaction, upgrade to 🤣 or 💀 when the joke truly destroys you, and keep sad news tear-free. Match the tears to your real laugh, and 😂 will never steer you wrong.
